He added: "To reach the Champions League final, you must play against the best, to be first in the best group, but the final is still far away."

On his scoring two goals against Monchengladbach, Benzema said: "I am here to help the team, if I am in the striker position or as number 10 I am good."

And he added, "I am proud of the number of matches played by Roberto Carlos, because he is a legend of the club. I am happy and moving forward."

On the return of Sergio Ramos to Mönchengladbach, Benzema said: “Sergio’s being in good condition is important, it helps us all, it is the best defense in the world.”
